Our response to COVID-19
At Mercatus, the safety and well-being of our tenants and shoppers are our utmost priority. We are continually monitoring the evolving developments and taking the necessary precautionary measures in line with the Singapore Ministry of Health’s (MOH) guidelines. We stand united with our tenants and shoppers and are ready to take additional steps to keep everyone safe.
For Our Tenants
We understand that this pandemic is posing unprecedented challenges to our tenants, especially those in the retail industry, as it is for all of us. We are committed to continue engaging all our stakeholders to support them to the full extent of our capabilities.
11 June 2020: Mercatus is fully supportive of the initiatives in the Fortitude Budget. Since March 2020, we have extended rent relief to retail tenants in our properties totalling S$37 million inclusive of the value of property tax rebates. This represents committed rent relief of up to three months’ of rents or more to most of our retail tenants.
Please check here for more information.
9 April 2020: To support retail mall tenants (AMK Hub, Jurong Point, Thomson Plaza) affected by the month-long ‘circuit-breaker’, we have introduced rental support measures:
- For tenants in non-essential services that are not allowed to operate and essential services not operating: One-month gross rent relief
- For tenants in F&B, telcos and other essential services that are trading with limited services: Pay only the service charge
- For most tenants in essential services who continue to operate: Reduced gross rent by 50% and suspend gross turnover rent component
This is in addition to previously announced initiatives to support tenants including rental assistance and the passing on of the property tax rebates from the government in full to tenants. Please check here for more information.
3 April 2020: As mandated by the Government on 3 April 2020, all non-essential services are required to close from 7 April 2020 to 4 May 2020 (inclusive). The malls will continue to operate as usual from 10am to 10pm. Please check here for additional information
26 March 2020: Mercatus has committed to pass on 100% of its property tax rebates from the Government to all our tenants.
3 March 2020: We have rolled out an assistance package and other initiatives to support our retail malls’ tenants and help them further defray costs and safeguard jobs. This includes grants of rental assistance of up to 1 month to eligible retail tenants at Jurong Point, AMK Hub, Swing By @ Thomson Plaza, and One Marina Boulevard. Eligible tenants had been individually informed and will receive rental assistance in tranches.
